Raising New Generation of Fintech Stars in Vietnam: Cooperation between Banking Academy and OpenWay

A closing ceremony for the cooperation project between the Faculty of Management Information Systems of Vietnam Banking Academy and OpenWay Vietnam Co., Ltd. was held on July 2, 2020 in the Digital Transformation Lab at Banking Academy Headquarters.

Associate Professor Dao Minh Phuc, President of the Academy Council,  Associate Professor Le Van Luyen, Deputy Director of the Academy, representatives of departments, divisions and lecturers of the Faculty of Management  Information Systems attended the ceremony as representatives of the Banking Academy.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, General Director of OpenWay Vietnam Co., Ltd., represented OpenWay together with technical experts involved in the project.

On behalf of Banking Academy directors, Associate Professor Dao Minh Phuc affirmed that the recent explosion of science and technology has changed traditional business methods, especially in the banking industry. The development of new disciplines based on science and technology and digital technology is an inevitable trend. 

Associate Professor Dao Minh Phuc highly appreciated the cooperation between the Faculty of Information Technology and OpenWay. He was delighted to see the highly practical and applicable results of the research projects. The Associate Professor Dao Minh Phuc also expressed his wish that the two organizations would enjoy further cooperation in the future, supporting training at Banking Academy and providing highly qualified human resources for the Vietnamese banking system.

As part of the project, OpenWay and Banking Academy opened the Digital Transformation LAB room for Faculty of Management Information Systems, a learning and research environment for practical exercises. The lab is expected to become a place where student ideas are supported by technology experts from businesses and become realized, bringing benefits to all participants.

Student groups presented the results of their research. The first group worked on the topic “Payment solutions based on cloud computing – opportunities and challenges in Vietnam”, covering the following:

  • Current situation and trends of applying cloud payment solutions worldwide 

  • Current situation and trend of applying bar solutions: cloud computing in Vietnam

  • Recommendations to deploy payment solutions on cloud computing platforms in Vietnam

The second group has chosen to explore the Way4 payment platform, and its application in the experimental development of a small charity application for online giving. 

The idea is to help benefactors (lecturers, students and others) easily and regularly share small but significant contributions to the community. The project was to transform the traditional charity model into an online version with all financial transactions being smoothly processed by OpenWay’s Way4 solution.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, General Director of OpenWay Vietnam Co., Ltd, shared these results after a year of cooperation:

  • Building of a digital lab with a model that allows teachers, students and businesses to jointly implement projects

  • Selection of the two most practical projects to be implemented

  • Awarding of scholarships to outstanding students of the school

The Associate Professor showed appreciation for the research, thanked OpenWay Vietnam for sponsoring, receiving and training Banking Academy students and expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two organizations would continue. 

On behalf of the students participating in the project, student Nguyen Thi Phan expressed her thanks to Banking Academy directors, OpenWay Vietnam Co., Ltd., and the teachers, who always helped, facilitated and supported student groups so they could completed the project well.

Phase 1 of the cooperation project between the Banking Academy and OpenWay Vietnam Co. has ended successfully. Hopefully, the collaboration between the parties will continue in the same spirit.
