Digital Banking & Digital Transformation Expert
Sotiris Syrmakezis is one of the few truly key figures in digital transformation, digital banking and fintech in Greece and Southeastern Europe. He has played a major role in the digital transformation of the largest Greek banks, beginning with Piraeus Bank’s “winbank”, the first fully-fledged digital banking platform in Greece which was also expanded to Southeastern Europe markets. He has designed and implemented scores of major IT and innovation projects, while in senior leadership positions in Greek banks including the new omnichannel banking platform of Eurobank. He is also highly involved with the Greek startup community having been an active mentor to many of the companies of the Greek startup scene and having worked as an Advisor in VC funds. He has also organized and energetically supported many related events and conferences.
Recently, Sotiris was the Chief Retail, Digital & Technology Officer at Praxia Bank. Previously he worked for 2.5 years at Eurobank, as General Manager, Group Chief Digital & Technology Officer. Before that, he worked for 15.5 years at Piraeus Bank Group, as General Manager of Retail Banking (2012-2015), Deputy General Manager of Electronic Business (2008-2012) and Electronic Banking Director (winbank) (2000-2008). He has been a member of the board of several companies in Greece and abroad. He started his career in Egnatia Bank where he worked for 9 years, the last 4 of which as a CIO.
He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Crete and he is currently completing the Master in Technology and Innovation Management in the Technical University of Crete.
